Residents of Bay Village are reminded to adjust their clocks one hour ahead on Saturday night as Daylight Saving Time commences at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Fire Chief Christopher Lyons has issued safety guidelines for the residents, according to the Bay Village newsletter. He said, "'For the protection of your family, install a smoke detector on every level of your home and inside and outside of each sleeping area. Also, develop an escape plan from each bedroom (with two ways out) and make sure every family member knows what to do and where to meet outside if the fire alarm sounds."

Lyons further advises families to rehearse both primary and secondary escape plans in preparation for potential emergencies. He recommends testing smoke alarms at least once a month and replacing batteries twice a year or whenever the device starts "chirping."

The Fire Chief also provides specific maintenance advice for smoke detectors. According to the Bay Village newsletter, Lyons suggests residents vacuum dust from inside the detector annually; change batteries twice a year or when a detector "chirps", indicating low battery power; replace smoke alarms that are over 10 years old; and ensure they are of the "photoelectric" type.
